SmartWindow is a temperature sensing device that installs in your window or wall. It is capable of either circulating outdoor air, or providing an R20 insulating block thanks to its swivel cylinder design.
Due to the effects of black body radiation on buildings, air conditioners will continue to operate long after the outdoor air temperature is cooler than room temperature. This can translate to hundreds of dollars of wasted energy, annually, for a larger home.
By detecting the availability of cooler outdoor air, the SmartWindow will begin to pull fresh air alongside your air conditioner to drastically reduce the cooling load. This in fact makes it one of the most energy efficient products on the market, for its cost. Fresh air is nice, too.
While you could manually achieve the same energy savings by managing your windows, it is unlikely worth it, given that if you don’t seal and insulate at the correct time, you will lose that energy savings later.
The SmartWindow is patent pending and will be available for beta testers in the summer of 2021.
